What exactly is this “H2O” project you talk about?
May 16th, 2007 by John Hok
Well I’ve made a couple posts about this thing called “H2O” which I’m working on for one of my websites. It’s one of the biggest projects I’ve undertaken and I think it will be one of my biggest successes yet.
So what exactly is this thing? Well here is a recent interview I had with Robert, our Public Relations Administrator over at Imusion Studio. Hopefully this will give you more insight on this project.
Well let us get the ball rolling here by asking, what’s your name and your current position at Imusion Studio?
My name is Johnathan Hok and I am the original founder of Imusion Studio. I am responsible for the day to day operation of the site and I also act as the lead developer for Imusion Studio.
How long have you been a part of the team at Imusion Studio?
I’ve been part of the team right from the beginning when Imusion Studio was launched on October 30th, 2003.
What is H20 v2.0, and what makes it different from the previous version?
H2O is the name we gave for the “user profile” system on Imusion Studio. On your typical site, users have a basic profile page which displays basic info about the user and ways to get in touch with the user. The initial idea of H2O grew out from this concept and we extended the “profile page” concept into a fully fledged social type network. H2O gives users access to several features that allows them to express themselves more freely and encourage more interaction between the members more than through a typical profile page.
What makes version 2.0 different is that we are giving the users more control about how their profile looks and functions. Also with H2O version 2.0 we are introducing a new system codenamed “Influx”. Influx is the major driving force behind the version 2.0 upgrade of H2O. Influx will introduce a way that will allow users to contribute resources directly back to the site and also factor in on what content other visitors on Imusion Studio get to see.
Now that we know a bit about H2O itself, what is the main concept behind the whole system and what makes the whole thing unique?
Like I said before, a large part of H2O is meant to open the channel of interaction between both the members themselves and the website. The concept behind H2O is to allow users to express themselves and interact with other Imusion Studio users.
A big part of H2O version 2.0 is the Influx system and the concept behind the Influx system is to address the growing problem within the “webmaster resource community”. Influx is meant to streamline the way resources on Imusion Studio is discovered and created. Instead of following the traditional means of one person or one team driving the site, we have the user base as the main “moderators” for the content that is shown on Imusion Studio.
That in itself lends a really unique aspect to H2O that I think no other webmaster community really has to boast about- well not yet at least.
Can you give an example of how the Influx system will run?
I can’t really give an exact summary of how Influx will run because it is still in its development stage and I would like to keep the fine details of it under wraps. What I can tell you is the Imusion Studio staff and myself have been working tediously on brainstorming the different aspects of Influx and I have to say that I am pleased with our concept and vision of how Influx will operate. We have identified the problem with the current state of the webmaster resource community in general and we know that Influx will finally address this problem and possibly begin changing the way other webmaster resource websites operate as well.
What are your plans for the marketing and advertising behind the whole project?
Well H2O will be the heart and soul of Imusion Studio for many years to come, so we will be working really hard to promote and advertise the system aggressively. We have plans for both online and offline local advertising campaigns to really build a strong user base.
In addition to these advertising campaigns, we will be running many types of competitions with awesome prizes to promote the use of the system.
Are there any plans in the future to further extend the system beyond what you have already designed?
At the moment this has not really been discussed as I am just focused on the present state of the project, but of course we have intentions to fully support and improve the system in the future.
And finally, has there been an official release date set for the project yet?
We plan on releasing beta versions in June prior to the final launch if everything goes as planned. Unfortunately, we have no firm release date set at this moment for a final release, but we are targeting our launch for the summer of 2007.
Thanks for your time, it was a pleasure and I cannot wait for the new system to come out!
It has been my pleasure to be able to answer your questions. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to do this interview.

Nice. I’ll sign up when you get it done.
Awesome, too bad the thing is taking so long to code.
